Social Health Authority announces claim verification and improved teacher benefits

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced a medical surveillance and verification exercise for Level 4 healthcare providers regarding outstanding claims inherited from the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). Starting September 21, 2026, the process will target providers with pending claims of Ksh10 million or more. Affected facilities must prepare documentation, including invoices, service delivery records, and claim submission records, to validate the amounts owed.

In a separate development, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced improved healthcare benefits for teachers under the Mwalimu Comprehensive Medical Cover. Following meetings with teachers' unions and the Teachers Service Commission, the government is addressing concerns regarding access to specialized services such as oncology treatment, IVF, chronic disease management, and bone marrow transplants. The SHA currently has 7,031 contracted healthcare facilities nationwide, and efforts are underway to expand specialized care options and simplify the benefits guide for members.
