Social initiatives promote sustainability and foundation contributions

The Fundo de Apoio à Comunidade (FAC) is conducting social actions focused on sustainability to mark Environmental Educator Day and Conscious Consumption Day on October 15. These initiatives include workshops, lectures, and activities such as pedagogical and community gardens, creative economy workshops, and guidance on proper waste disposal. Through its Urban Agriculture Technical Unit, the FAC provides a living laboratory where participants learn about soil preparation, chemical-free cultivation, and composting to transform organic waste into agroecological fertilizer.

In Europe, October 1 marked European Foundation and Donor Day, highlighting the diverse role of foundations in Portuguese society. These institutions contribute to education, science, health, culture, and environmental protection. Beyond crisis response, such as mobilizing over 39 million euros following storm Kristin, foundations provide long-term support for research, social responses, and community development.
