Social media influence drives consumer purchasing decisions

Recent studies highlight the growing impact of social media on consumer purchasing decisions, specifically regarding the influence of user recommendations and content creators.

In Latin America, 77% of consumers place higher trust in reviews and recommendations from other users rather than large-scale content creators. This shift emphasizes the value of niche communities where shared interests drive decisions in sectors like dining and wellness. According to Cinthya Vitery, co-founder of Circool, brands are increasingly prioritizing connections with affinity communities where influence is measured by conversion and trust rather than mere reach.

In Germany, research by Publicis Media shows that two-thirds of social media users encounter influencer content at least once a day, with Instagram (75%) and TikTok (73%) being the primary platforms. Approximately 40% of all age groups report discovering new trends or products through influencers. The impact is particularly strong among Generation Z, where 59% have made purchases based on influencer recommendations and 60% seek more information following a recommendation.
