Social media platforms use user content for AI training

Social media platforms are increasingly using user content to train generative artificial intelligence models. While some platforms, such as Amazon-owned Twitch, have introduced options for users to opt out of having their streams, chats, and videos used for AI training, many other services make the process difficult or do not offer an opt-out mechanism at all.

Most platforms operate on an implicit consent model, where logging into a service is treated as permission to use data for AI development. This training is often bundled within broader privacy policies alongside standard machine learning features, such as recommendation algorithms.

Regarding specific platforms, Bluesky does not officially train AI models on user data, though its decentralized protocol means posts are public and susceptible to third-party scraping. Other major platforms like Facebook and Google continue to utilize user data for various AI-driven functions.
