Social media trends pose risks through AI scams and privacy exposure

Investigations have revealed a network of fake TikTok profiles using artificial intelligence to promote fraudulent health advice. These accounts utilize AI-generated avatars to simulate impossible physical transformations and weight loss results. These profiles often fail to disclose the use of AI, violating platform policies, and interact with users as if they were real people to sell paid guides and applications.

Separately, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has issued a warning regarding the “farming aura” trend among adolescents. This trend involves users posting videos of dances or gestures to gain social status. Experts warn that viral content can lead to privacy risks, as strangers may use the videos to track locations, schools, and routines, potentially facilitating identity theft, fraud, or social engineering attacks.
