Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf urges Tagana to strengthen disaster preparedness
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, has called upon 1,000 members of the Taruna Siaga Bencana (Tagana) in South Sulawesi to enhance disaster preparedness and education. Speaking at a disaster readiness assembly and jamboree in Makassar, the Minister emphasized the importance of the ‘Sekolah Rakyat Aman Bencana’ (Safe People's School) socialization program to ensure educational environments are safe for students and teachers.
Minister Yusuf highlighted that disaster education must include risk recognition, evacuation routes, assembly points, emergency communication, and basic rescue techniques. He tasked Tagana with playing an active role in ensuring these skills are understood and practiced regularly within schools.
Accompanied by South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, the Minister identified five key areas for Tagana members to strengthen: technical skills, discipline and command, non-discriminatory humanitarian service, disaster education, and collaboration. The event served as a consolidation for volunteers to improve skills, share experiences, and strengthen their capacity for emergency response, recovery, and community preparedness.
