Social policy and healthcare infrastructure challenges in Mexico and Peru

Civil society organizations in Mexico are calling for the accelerated development of a National and Progressive Care System (SNyPC). During the fourth National Meeting on the Future of Care in Mexico, participants warned that the current lack of public infrastructure and services forces women to bear a disproportionate share of both paid and unpaid care work, which limits their economic and social autonomy.

In Peru, the Loreto region is facing a significant healthcare crisis. According to the Red de Estudios para el Desarrollo (REDES), more than 500 health centers in the region are in poor condition. This deficiency primarily affects primary care services, including vaccinations and preventative screenings. Additionally, six out of the seven hospitals in the region suffer from inadequate infrastructure and equipment. Concerns were also raised regarding budget mismanagement in public works, specifically citing the Iquitos Hospital project.
