Social priorities identified in Brazil and housing investments in Portugal
In Brazil, a survey conducted by the Data8 hub for the non-partisan Movimento Voto 70+ has identified the primary concerns of citizens aged 70 and older. Based on 18,622 participations, the study found that social inequality was the most cited issue (35%), followed by ageism and elderly rights (25%). Corruption and political polarization accounted for 20% of the responses. The data indicates that material living conditions, such as healthcare, housing, and retirement, are significant priorities for this demographic, even amidst political polarization.
In Oliveira de Azeméis, Portugal, local housing strategies are underway to double the public housing stock. This initiative, part of the Local Housing Strategy, includes a five-million-euro investment for the acquisition of homes intended for affordable rental. The Socialist Party has also committed to supporting young people with rental assistance and home ownership to encourage local economic stability and population retention.
