Social Security 2027 COLA likely near 3.8% increase for retirees
Early estimates suggest the 2027 Social Security cost‑of‑living adjustment (COLA) could rise to about 3.7‑3.8%, according to the Senior Citizens League and independent analyst Mary Johnson. At that rate, the average monthly benefit—currently around $2,084—would increase by roughly $73‑$79 per month. The 2026 COLA was 2.8%, adding about $56 to payments. The official 2027 figure will be announced by Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano in October.
Senior Citizens League executive director Shannon Benton warned that “more than half of seniors already can’t afford basic living standards” amid rising inflation, underscoring concerns that even a 3.8% bump may not keep pace with costs.
