Social security agencies announce September payment schedules

Social security agencies in the United States and South Africa have released their disbursement schedules for September 2026.

In the United States, the Social Security Administration has announced that beneficiaries who started drawing benefits before May 1997, as well as dual beneficiaries receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), will receive payments on September 3. The majority of the 71.3 million beneficiaries will follow a schedule based on their birthdate: those born between the 1st and 10th will be paid on September 9, those born between the 11th and 20th on September 16, and those born between the 21st and 31st on September 23.

In South Africa, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will begin its grant cycle on September 2, with Older Persons and War Veterans grants being paid first. Disability and Care Dependency grants are scheduled for September 3, followed by Child Support and Foster Child grants on September 4. Beneficiaries flagged for grant reviews or life certification will receive their payments on September 7. SASSA has encouraged recipients to use digital platforms, such as the e-Life Certification portal and WhatsApp enquiry channels, to manage their status and avoid unnecessary office visits.
