Social security institutions outline pension and retirement benefits

Various social security institutions in Portugal and Mexico provide specific guidelines and services for retirees and pensioners regarding their benefits and administrative management.

In Portugal, the social old-age pension is available to individuals who reach the retirement age of 66 years and 9 months but have not made sufficient social security contributions. Eligibility is subject to monthly gross income limits, which are set at 214.85 euros for single individuals and 322.28 euros for couples. In 2026, the monthly value is projected to be 262.40 euros, supplemented by an extraordinary solidarity allowance.

In Mexico, several institutions manage retiree services. ISSSTE offers approximately 20 benefits, including medical care, physical and mental rehabilitation, housing assistance, and various loans. IMSS provides digital tools through its pension portal, allowing users to consult payment calendars, estimate pension amounts via ‘Mi Pensión Digital’, and verify contribution weeks. In Yucatán, ISSTEY manages social security for state and municipal workers, offering services to track pension status, payroll data, and administrative file requirements.
