Social Security July payouts include double SSI checks due to calendar quirk

The Social Security Administration’s July payment schedule follows the usual pattern: retirees receive their benefits on the Wednesday that aligns with their birth‑date range, while Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks are issued on the first business day of the month.

Because August 1 falls on a Saturday in the 2026 calendar, the SSA will issue an extra SSI payment on Friday, July 31 for the August benefit. Beneficiaries therefore receive two SSI checks in July—one on July 1 and another on July 31. The same calendar effect will cause paired SSI payments in October and December.

The first wave of Social Security benefits for July is set to begin on Wednesday, July 8, with the program facing a projected funding shortfall by 2032. Proposals to address the gap include capping annual benefits at $100,000.
