Social Security payment schedules released for July and September 2026

The Social Security Administration announced the timing of July 2026 benefit disbursements. The first round will be issued within ten days, the second round on July 15 for beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of each month, and the third round on July 22 for those born on the 21st or later. Monthly benefits are capped at $5,181, with amounts ranging from $2,969 for a 62‑year‑old retiree to $5,181 for a 70‑year‑old, depending on earnings history.

For September 2026, payments will follow the usual birthday‑based schedule: recipients born days 1‑10 receive funds on the second Wednesday (Sept 9), days 11‑20 on the third Wednesday (Sept 16), and days 21‑31 on the fourth Wednesday (Sept 23). SSI beneficiaries will be paid on September 1. A 2.8% cost‑of‑living adjustment took effect in January, raising the average monthly retirement benefit to about $2,071. The agency also reminded beneficiaries that electronic direct deposit will become mandatory by the end of 2026, ending paper checks.
