Social Security Portal updates for Portuguese workers
Employees and independent workers in Portugal can use the Social Security Portal to manage and verify their contributions.
Salaried employees can monitor their contributory career to ensure that wages are being correctly registered. This is vital for determining future social benefits, such as old-age pensions. Under the general regime, the total contribution rate is 34.75%, consisting of 11% from the worker and 23.75% from the employer. Workers can verify their history via the ‘Work’ section of the portal to check for discrepancies between their pay slips and registered values.
Independent workers are currently able to submit their quarterly declarations for income earned in July, August, and September. The deadline for this submission is October 31. These declared values will determine the contribution amounts for October, November, and December. The portal also allows these workers to check real-time payment statuses and outstanding debts under the ‘Payments and debts’ section.
