Social security and subsidy updates in Uruguay, Argentina, and the US
Various social security and subsidy updates are being implemented across different regions.
In Uruguay, the Banco de Previsión Social (BPS) announced that over 152,000 people will receive Fonasa surplus refunds from 2025. The total disbursement exceeds 8,085 million pesos. Beneficiaries can begin checking their amounts starting September 7, with payments scheduled to commence on September 21.
In Argentina, ANSES has released the September 2026 payment schedule, featuring a 2.11% increase in benefits based on inflation data. This includes an additional 70,000 peso bonus for lower-income retirees and pensioners. The payment cycle begins on September 8, distributed according to the final digit of beneficiaries' national identity documents.
In the United States, Social Security payments are being distributed according to specific schedules. Additionally, legislative proposals such as the Senior Citizens’ Freedom to Work Act aim to eliminate income testing for retirees who continue to work before reaching full retirement age. Looking ahead, the 2027 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) is expected to be announced in mid-October following the release of September inflation data.
