Social welfare initiatives launch for vulnerable children in Romania and Moldova

In Romania, the organization Salvați Copiii is conducting the fourth edition of the ‘Baby Box’ project in Mureș county. The initiative aims to provide 300 mothers and newborns from vulnerable communities with support packages containing over 65 essential products. The project, funded by a 5 million euro grant from the OMV Petrom Foundation, also includes educational components regarding health and access to medical services. Nationally, the program intends to support 10,000 vulnerable mothers and infants.

In Moldova, a new partnership has been established between the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and several NGOs, including Keystone Moldova and CCF Moldova, to support approximately 500 at-risk children. Funded by the EU with 2.1 million euros, the project focuses on preventing child abandonment, neglect, and abuse by strengthening community-based social services. The initiative aims to identify and resolve family issues early to prevent children, including those with severe disabilities, from being separated from their families or placed in residential institutions.
