Social welfare initiatives launched in Chile and Colombia

In Chile, FOSIS and the AIEP Professional Institute have launched a new version of the “Cuidando Juntos” course, offering 5,000 free spots to professionalize elderly care. The 36-hour online program is designed for those caring for seniors with moderate or severe dependency. It focuses on empathy, effective communication, autonomy promotion, and caregiver mental health to prevent burnout. Registration is open until August 31, 2026, via fosis.gob.cl for individuals over 18 with a ClaveÚnica.

In Colombia, social support mechanisms continue to target female-led households, which according to DANE and the WWB Colombia foundation, account for 46% of the country's homes. Available benefits include Renta Ciudadana, which provides monetary transfers through the Departamento de Prosperidad Social for food and health needs. Additionally, those affiliated with compensation funds may access family subsidies if they meet specific income and employment requirements, such as earning four or fewer minimum wages and working at least 96 hours per month.
