Social work professionals highlighted for mental health and patient support roles
During the fourth Social Work Conference at UNAM, researcher Adriana Ornelas Beltrán emphasized the necessity of addressing mental health through a social lens. She noted that global concerns regarding mental health, stress, and dementia have risen, with the pandemic significantly increasing anxiety and depression, particularly among women.
In Querétaro, Mexico, the State Health Secretariat (SESA) highlighted the role of social workers in strengthening healthcare through patient orientation, support networks, and treatment continuity. This recognition follows the official declaration of August 21 as National Social Work Day by the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, acknowledging the profession's importance in disease prevention and psychosocial support for patients with chronic illnesses.
