Socialdemokraterna face criticism over criminal sentencing stance

The Swedish Social Democratic Party (Socialdemokraterna) is facing criticism following conflicting stances regarding criminal sentencing and legislative proposals.

Party Secretary Tobias Baudin stated on social media that the party intends to abolish the "quantity discount" (mängdrabatten)—a reduction in sentencing for repeat offenders—to improve public safety. However, the party has submitted a motion to the Riksdag to reject the government's entire proposal regarding new regulations for sentencing in cases of multiple offenses.

This discrepancy has led to accusations of hypocrisy from various political commentators and members of parliament, as the party's legislative action appears to contradict the public messaging regarding stricter penalties for serious crime.
