Socialdemokraterna propose age discrimination sanctions and local labor improvements

The Social Democratic Party (S) has introduced several labor-related campaign promises for the 2026 election. Nationally, Ardalan Shekarabi, the party’s labor market policy spokesperson, announced that the party aims to grant the Equality Ombudsman (Diskrimineringsombudsmannen) the authority to issue sanctions against employers who discriminate based on age. This move is intended to make violating anti-discrimination rules more costly for companies, particularly as older individuals represent an increasing share of the unemployed.

At the local level in Falun, Municipal Commissioner Liza Lundberg has presented an agreement with the union Kommunal. The local promises include providing work clothes and shoes for staff in preschools, primary schools, and after-school programs to better protect them from weather conditions. Additionally, the party aims to reduce stress in home care services and offer free driver's license training for students in care programs to improve employability in the elderly care sector.
