Socialist Left Party leadership faces re-election deadline
The leadership of the Socialist Left Party (SV) faces a Monday deadline to inform the election committee whether they will seek re-election. Current party leader Kirsti Bergstø and deputy leader Marian Hussein have not yet responded to inquiries regarding their intentions.
Deputy leader Lars Haltbrekken provided a brief response to inquiries, but the full status of the leadership remains uncertain. The entire leadership team is up for election during the party's national convention in March. Local and county chapters have until November 9 to submit recommendations for the new leadership.
The uncertainty comes amid declining poll numbers for SV, which have dropped to 5 percent, while the Red Party has seen an increase to surpass them. Additionally, internal dissatisfaction has surfaced within the party's grassroots, with discussions in private social media groups regarding a change in leadership. Bergstø has expressed motivation to continue, while Hussein has noted she is considering stepping down due to experiencing hate and harassment.
