Socialist Party considers independent candidacy for 2027 in Uruguay Department

The Socialist Party (PS) of the Uruguay Department held its first official meeting following the inauguration of new authorities to outline its political strategy. Led by departmental president Paulo González and local leader Hermelinda ‘Tita’ Duré, the party analyzed regional political and social challenges.

Party leadership indicated they are not ruling out presenting their own candidate for the mayoralty in 2027, similar to their 2019 electoral approach. While emphasizing a transformative vocation, the party reaffirmed its commitment to a coalition-based profile, prioritizing dialogue, consensus, and programmatic agreements.
