Socialist Party Demands Clarifications on Municipal Hiring Probe in Santa Cruz, Portugal
The Socialist Party (PS) of Santa Cruz, Portugal, issued a public request to the municipal chamber’s executive demanding explanations about alleged irregularities in public recruitment procedures.
The demand follows media reports that three municipal employees have been suspended, the chamber president Élia Ascensão has been named as a suspect, and former mayor Filipe Sousa may have interfered in the hiring process. The PS said it will not replace the judiciary, respects the independence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the courts, but argues the political and administrative dimensions require transparency, impartiality, and mechanisms to restore public confidence.
