Socialist Party demands explanations over two deaths at Portimão Hospital
José Luís Carneiro, the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS), has called on Prime Minister Luís Montenegro to provide a public explanation regarding two deaths that allegedly occurred due to a lack of medical assistance at Portimão Hospital in the Algarve.
Speaking in Vila Nova de Gaia, Carneiro cited reports of failures in emergency care at the facility. He noted that the Mayor of Portimão shared concerning information regarding a shortage of doctors in the emergency department and long waiting times for patients. Carneiro emphasized that the government owes explanations not only to the victims' families but also to the thousands of people from various municipalities who rely on the hospital daily.
The Socialist leader also criticized the Health Minister, stating she has been absent from the needs of the Ministry of Health, and argued that primary political responsibility lies with the Prime Minister.
