Mozambique and Portugal seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo and the Secretary-General of the Portuguese Socialist Party (PS), José Luís Carneiro, have met in Maputo to advocate for strengthened cooperation between Mozambique and Portugal.

The discussions focused on enhancing citizen mobility, investment, education, and culture. Carneiro emphasized the importance of removing obstacles within the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) to facilitate the movement of students, workers, and investors. He noted that over 1,200 Mozambican youths are currently studying in Portugal and highlighted the role of the Portuguese diaspora and businesses in both nations.

In a separate development, the President of the Mozambican Assembly, Margarida Talapa, led a parliamentary oversight visit to the Mozambique LNG project in Cabo Delgado. The visit, which included representatives from major political parties, aimed to ensure the responsible management of natural resources and to discuss the socio-economic impacts of TotalEnergies' operations in the Rovuma Basin.

Additionally, Mozambican Prime Minister Benvinda Levy addressed Mozambican students studying abroad, urging them to develop high-level technical skills to meet national labor market needs, particularly in the oil and gas sectors.
