Sociedad Argentina de Pediatría warns of rising hybrid bullying

The Argentine Society of Pediatrics (SAP) has issued a warning regarding the rise of “hybrid” bullying, where physical aggression in schools transitions into digital harassment via social media, WhatsApp, and gaming platforms. This continuity allows violence to persist outside school hours, reaching children at home and leaving a lasting digital footprint.

Data highlights the scale of the issue. According to the 2023 Aprender Tests, 63% of sixth-grade students reported experiencing at least one instance of aggression or violence during that year. Furthermore, UNICEF Argentina reported that the proportion of adolescents aged 13 to 17 experiencing harassment rose from 25% to 41% between 2024 and 2025.

The SAP notes that cyberbullying can involve hate speech, fake profiles, and the unauthorized distribution of private information. There is also growing concern regarding the use of artificial intelligence to alter content and intensify harassment. Common warning signs in victims include fatigue, sleep disturbances, changes in eating habits, and declining academic performance.
