Sociedad del Canal de Maipo hosts water reuse seminar
The Sociedad del Canal de Maipo (SCM), Chile’s oldest non-profit organization founded in 1827, is hosting a seminar titled ‘Challenges of Water Reuse in Chile’ to mark its bicentennial. The event brings together government officials, international experts, and agricultural representatives to discuss the sustainability of the Maipo basin.
Discussions will focus on strategic and technological responses to climate change, including the impact on glaciers, multi-actor governance, and water reuse technologies. The SCM operates a 308-kilometer network of canals essential for human consumption, agricultural irrigation, and clean electricity generation for the Santiago metropolitan area.
General Manager Alejandro Gómez emphasized that managing the Maipo River requires scientific knowledge and innovation to meet the demands of a massive basin facing climate pressures.
