Societal shifts in the transition to adulthood
Societal discussions are increasing regarding the shifting transition from childhood to adulthood, particularly for Gen Z. Research suggests that the milestones of maturity are occurring later than in previous generations. Data indicates that 43% of 25-year-olds still live at home, often due to a difficult labor market affecting university graduates.
There is a growing movement in Westminster to recognize the period between ages 18 and 25 as a distinct life stage requiring tailored policy support. The Nuffield Foundation recently held a seminar to discuss these changing journeys, alongside discussions regarding the causes of young people becoming NEET (not in education, employment, or training).
