Sociological research and community events address evolving adolescent bullying

New research and community initiatives are highlighting the changing nature of adolescent bullying in the digital age. Sarah Miller, an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Boston University, has released a book titled ‘The Tolerance Generation: Growing Up Online in the Anti-Bullying Era’. Based on two years of ethnographic research in a rural U.S. high school, Miller argues that while anti-bullying policies exist, teenagers have adapted their behaviors to evade adult detection and official criteria.

In Italy, Teresa Manes is hosting a series of community meetings in the Milan hinterland from October 23 to 25. Through her book ‘Contro il bullismo’, Manes aims to engage parents, teachers, and students in Cernusco sul Naviglio, Lissone, and Cassina Rizzardi. The events focus on recognizing predatory behaviors and fostering respectful relationships to help young people defend themselves and support others.
