Sociologist Mariam Menawi discusses Gaza crisis at Bursa Technical University

At a seminar hosted by Bursa Technical University, Palestinian sociologist Mariam Menawi and Dr. Burak Çakırca discussed the historical, legal, and social dimensions of the Palestinian issue and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Menawi, who moved to Turkey in 2019 for doctoral studies, described the situation in Palestine as a genocide rather than a minor conflict. She highlighted the difficulties of living under occupation, noting that universities are closed and movement is restricted by Israeli military checkpoints.

Dr. Burak Çakırca emphasized that the situation should be framed as a Palestinian issue regarding an occupied state rather than a Palestinian problem. He argued that the aggression following the October 7 events has clearly demonstrated the nature of the occupation and noted that the legal foundations of the occupation regime remain controversial under international law.
