SOCOM awards contract for nutrition app to optimize troop performance

Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has issued a sole-source contract to Teamworks Tactical Solutions to implement a nutrition application designed to optimize human performance and lethality among troops.

The platform will connect up to 55 performance dietitians with more than 18,000 tactical troops across various locations. The app provides personalized, mission-specific nutrition plans by coordinating with dining halls to develop meal plans and offering nutritional ratings for food options. In instances where military dining facilities are unavailable, troops can use the app to seek dietary guidance.

While the Pentagon is currently working to improve fitness standards, Teamworks Tactical Solutions noted that SOCOM has utilized this product for several years through the Air Force Research Laboratory’s STRONG Lab. The new contract moves the agreement directly to SOCOM. The company, which typically works with Olympic and professional athletes, has tuned the software specifically to meet the needs of the organization.
