Socorro competes for state food security award
The municipality of Socorro is a contender for the ‘Josué de Castro Award for Combating Hunger and Malnutrition,’ organized by the São Paulo State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA/SP) and the State Council for Sustainable Food and Nutritional Security (CONSEA/SP).
Represented by the Municipal Agribusiness Secretariat, Socorro is competing in the best public policy program or project category with its Municipal Inspection Service for Products of Animal Origin (SIMPOA). This service enables small rural properties and urban micro-enterprises to commercialize products such as meat, dairy, honey, fish, and eggs in retail and wholesale markets, provided they meet established sanitary requirements.
By providing inspection and oversight, SIMPOA aims to ensure product quality, prevent health risks, and promote food safety. The initiative also supports the formalization of local production and expands market opportunities for small producers, thereby strengthening the local economy. The winner will be announced on October 16 in São Paulo.
