Sodi Scientifica tests AI road safety system in Tuscany
Sodi Scientifica has introduced SafeDrive, an artificial intelligence-driven road monitoring system currently undergoing a 90-day experimental test on the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway in Tuscany, specifically near Lastra a Signa.
Unlike traditional speed cameras, the SafeDrive system uses high-resolution sensors and infrared projectors to scan vehicle interiors. The AI algorithms are designed to detect driver behaviors such as smartphone usage and seatbelt compliance, while also verifying digital insurance and vehicle inspection documents. To protect occupant privacy, the software includes an automatic blurring feature for faces. The system is capable of monitoring simultaneous traffic flows in two directions at speeds up to 150 km/h.
