Soest and Nieuwegein appoint new municipal leaders
The Soest municipal council has appointed Matthias Noorlander as deputy chair. Noorlander, a Progressief Soest member first elected in 2022, will stand in for Mayor Rob Metz when needed and lead meetings on matters normally handled by the mayor, such as public order and safety.
In Nieuwegein, the newly formed college of mayor and aldermen has divided its portfolios. Mayor Marijke van Beukering retains responsibility for public order, citizen affairs and external relations. Aldermen have been assigned specific areas: Robert Scholten (finances, public domain, parking), John van Engelen (sports, culture, asylum and migration), Ellie Eggenoor (housing, spatial planning, economy), Tom Verhoeve (mobility, climate, education) and Mart Hack (well‑being, health care). The allocation defines each alderman's ward responsibilities within the municipality.
