Soest authorities uncover illegal gambling and untaxed tobacco

Authorities in Soest, Germany, conducted a coordinated multi-agency operation on Friday, October 9, 2026, targeting illegal gambling, tax evasion, and violations of labor and youth protection laws. The crackdown involved the Soest police, customs, tax investigators, and food safety inspectors.

During the operation, investigators discovered an allegedly illegal gambling venue operating in the back room of a tea shop. Officials seized four gambling machines, one of which was in use at the time of the raid. The premises were subsequently closed and sealed. Additionally, authorities seized approximately five kilograms of untaxed tobacco during a check of a shisha bar.

In addition to the seizures, investigators have initiated criminal proceedings regarding suspected illegal entry and residence.
