Soest doubles Climate Fund subsidy to 1 million euros

The municipality of Soest has doubled the subsidy ceiling for its 'Klimaatkas' (Climate Fund) from 500,000 to 1 million euros. This expansion allows residents of Soest and Soesterberg to continue applying for sustainable initiative funding through 2027.

The increase aims to prevent new projects from being denied support due to the original budget being exhausted. Since the fund's inception in 2025, fourteen local projects have received subsidies. Notable examples include investigating heat extraction from ponds in Overhees, managing local energy sharing to mitigate grid congestion, and supporting the Soest Energy Bank.

The additional 500,000 euros will not require new municipal funding; instead, it will be drawn from reserves previously set aside for the 2024-2030 Energy Program. The fund remains part of the existing subsidy scheme to encourage resident involvement in the energy transition.
