SoFi Technologies reports surging membership and institutional investment
SoFi Technologies is experiencing significant user growth and increased institutional interest despite recent market underperformance. During the second quarter, the fintech platform added approximately 1.1 million new members, bringing its total user base to 15.8 million, a 35% year-over-year increase. The company also reported a 42% year-over-year rise in total products, reaching 24.4 million.
While operational metrics show strong cross-selling momentum, investors have expressed concerns regarding the company’s increasing reliance on its lending business. This concentration has raised questions about capital intensity and potential credit risk exposure.
Concurrently, several major institutional investors have adjusted their positions in the company. Virginia Retirement Systems acquired 526,775 shares in the second quarter. Other significant moves include BlackRock Inc. establishing a new position and the California State Teachers Retirement System increasing its stake by over 1,600%.
