Sofia Airport concessionaire urged to resume state payments

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev met with leadership from the international investment fund Meridiam, the lead partner in the Sofia Airport concession, to discuss the resumption of concession payments to the state.

The government noted that the deferral of these payments, implemented in 2021 as a temporary measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is no longer necessary. Passenger traffic has fully recovered, surpassing the 2019 pre-pandemic level of 7.1 million passengers in 2023, and reaching a record 8.4 million in 2025.

Discussions also focused on the timely execution of the airport's investment program. Key priorities for the state include expanding capacity through apron expansion, the construction of additional taxiways, aircraft parking stands, and the potential development of a second runway to ensure long-term safety and service quality.
