Sofia Coppola’s ‘Marie Antoinette’ marks 20 years

Two decades after its release, Sofia Coppola’s film ‘Marie Antoinette’ continues to maintain a cult following despite a controversial debut. Originally met with boos at the Cannes Film Festival and criticism regarding its historical accuracy, the biopic has gained lasting fascination for its unique aesthetic and style.

Designer Milena Canonero received an Oscar for the film’s costume design, which featured pastel-colored creations. The film’s enduring legacy was recently highlighted by a peculiar incident in which a burglar broke into Coppola’s New York townhouse and specifically stole a behind-the-scenes photograph from the set, captured by photographer Andrew Durham.
