Sofia Goggia faces uncertain season start after double viral infection
Italian alpine skier Sofia Goggia faces an uncertain start to the upcoming World Cup season following a double viral infection. While training in Ushuaia, Argentina, Goggia contracted the Chikungunya virus, likely via a mosquito bite, which was subsequently followed by an infection with Parvovirus B19.
Goggia reported severe symptoms, including intense joint pain, neurological issues, leg tremors, and extreme exhaustion, noting that she was once unable to climb stairs. While she has passed the acute phase of the illnesses, she continues to experience fluctuating levels of fatigue and weakness.
The athlete has recently begun a gradual physical recovery process, including light training sessions in Sicily. However, she remains unable to confirm when she will return to snow training or be ready for the season opener in Sölden, Austria, on October 24.
