Sofia hosts 65th ERSA Congress for regional science experts
More than 600 scientists from 55 countries are participating in the 65th Congress of the European Association of Regional Science (ERSA) in Sofia, Bulgaria. The forum is themed ‘Global Challenges and Regional Responses in a Period of Transition.’
The event is hosted by Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ and the University of National and World Economy. Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nikolay Vitanov opened the forum, emphasizing that while technological, economic, demographic, and climate changes are global, their consequences are felt locally in cities, regions, and communities. He noted that sustainable solutions must be tailored to the specific potential of each territory and driven by science and education.
The congress, which runs until August 28, includes contributions from Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova and a video address from European Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva. Opening discussions were led by Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov and ERSA President Professor Roberta Capello.
