Sofia households face prolonged hot water outages
Hundreds of households in Sofia, Bulgaria, are experiencing extended hot water outages due to frequent accidents within an aging heating network. The most severely affected areas include the Mladost, Druzhba, and Iztok neighborhoods.
In the Mladost district, residents of certain buildings report being without hot water since October 6. Citizens have expressed frustration over recurring leaks and the inadequacy of temporary repairs, noting that new leaks often appear near previously patched sections. In one instance, water sprayed toward an electrical panel, prompting emergency reports.
Toplofikacia Sofia attributed the frequent disruptions to a dilapidated heating infrastructure, with some sections of the network not being replaced for over 35 years. The company stated that repairs are being conducted in stages, prioritizing subscriber stations, kindergartens, schools, and social institutions. While the company has promised to fix specific damages as soon as possible, no definitive timeline for the full restoration of service has been provided.
