Sofia Marathon expects record 11,000 runners from 66 countries

The 43rd edition of the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon is set to take place on October 10 and 11, with organizers reporting a record-breaking participation of over 11,000 runners. The event has drawn significant international interest, with approximately 1,400 participants from 66 different countries registered by mid-September.

The competition includes several disciplines: a 5 km mass run and a 10 km race on October 10, followed by the 21.1 km half-marathon, the classic 42.195 km marathon, and a new 2 x 21.1 km RelayRun on October 11. Due to high demand, registration for the classic and half-marathon distances reached capacity ten days before the official deadline.

The race route traverses major landmarks in Sofia, including the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the National Art Gallery, and the Largo. The total prize fund for the event is 14,550 euros. Organizers noted that the growing international presence helps promote Sofia as a modern European destination for active tourism.
