Sofia Mayor announces Green Ring linear park project
Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev has highlighted the ‘Green Ring’ as a strategic urban project designed to transform how residents move through and interact with the city. The initiative aims to convert 30 kilometers of unused land into a linear park that connects 30 different neighborhoods across the capital.
The project will feature pedestrian and bicycle paths, as well as dedicated spaces for sports, culture, and recreation. Construction for the first section, located between Pioneer Station and Shipchenski Prohod Boulevard, is scheduled to begin in late 2026.
To support the initial stages, the Sofia Municipality has allocated 155,000 euros for technical designs for sections in the ‘Iztok’ and ‘Slatina’ districts. Necessary land has already been acquired, and officials are currently working on technical procedures and site preparations. To encourage community involvement, the municipality has launched a traveling festival to allow local residents to experience and shape the future development of the terrain.
