Sofia Municipality begins demolition of illegal Koshara restaurant

The Sofia Municipality has begun the forced demolition of an illegal construction belonging to the ‘Koshara’ restaurant. The action follows an order to reclaim approximately half a decare of public municipal land located within the ‘Koshara’ forest park, which is designated for greenery and urban gardens.

Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev stated that the municipality's duty is to protect public land intended for parks, regardless of how long the legal case has lasted. The total property area is 36,976 square meters.

The legal dispute dates back decades, with the original building having burned down in 2019. In September 2024, municipal construction control discovered that a new massive metal structure was being built on a concrete slab without approved construction documents. Following inspections, orders to stop construction and mandate demolition were issued in October 2024.
