Sofia Municipality faces scrutiny over 2026 budget allocations

Andrei Dimitrov, chairman of the RED civil association, has raised questions regarding the Sofia Municipality's 2026 budget. He alleges that several infrastructure projects previously labeled as “corrupt” or unlawful by Mayor Vasil Terziev in 2024 have been reintroduced into the city's capital program without amendments.

In June 2024, Mayor Terziev reportedly identified 24 public procurements as having serious violations and declared them unlawful to ensure transparency. However, current budget documents show millions of euros allocated to the same projects. One specific example cited is a storm collector project in Novi Iskar, which was previously halted due to violations but now has 3.5 million euros allocated for it in the new budget.
