Sofia Municipality clarifies rules for park celebrations and cycling

Sofia officials have clarified regulations regarding the use of public parks to address recent public confusion and dissatisfaction. Deputy Mayor Lachezar Milushev stated that while private celebrations, such as birthdays, are not prohibited, they require prior approval from the Municipality. Failure to obtain permission can result in fines ranging from 153 to 255 euros for a first offense and between 306 and 511 euros for repeat violations. Organizers must submit an application at least seven working days in advance to prevent scheduling conflicts and ensure public order.

Simultaneously, municipal inspectors and police are conducting checks on the use of bicycles and electric scooters in city parks. Regulations prohibit riding bicycles on sidewalks or pedestrian paths for those over 12 years old, and children under 16 are not permitted to operate electric scooters. Fines for these violations range from 30 to 200 leva.

Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev addressed public concerns, emphasizing that the goal is not to introduce new bans but to ensure that citizens respect shared spaces and do not disturb others. He noted that the city is working on digitizing processes to make compliance easier and highlighted ongoing information campaigns to reduce accidents involving electric scooters.
