Sofia neighborhoods hit by multiple vehicle arsons

Multiple vehicle arsons occurred in the early hours of September 9 in the Sofia neighborhoods of Lagera and Hipodruma. The incidents involved several cars being set ablaze, with reports suggesting approximately 11 vehicles were affected.

In the Lagera district, the fire broke out around 2:00 AM near Bogevets Street, behind the Sofia District Court building. Witnesses reported intense flames reaching heights of three stories, thick smoke, and loud explosions that woke local residents. Firefighting teams responded to the scene to contain the blaze.

Simultaneously, fires were reported in the Hipodruma neighborhood near a large supermarket chain. Residents noted that the fires in Hipodruma appeared to start first, followed shortly by the incidents in Lagera. Due to the near-simultaneous timing, there is local speculation that the fires may have been intentional.

The 6th District Police Department has called for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the arsons to come forward and provide details to the local authorities.
