Sofia proposes ban on heavy construction during weekends
The Sofia Municipal Council is considering new regulations to prohibit heavy construction activities during weekends and public holidays. The proposed rules aim to address gaps in current ordinances regarding noise, dust, and traffic disruptions caused by heavy machinery, excavation, and demolition works.
Under the new proposal, activities such as building removal, excavation, and vertical landscaping on private properties would be strictly forbidden on Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays. The only exception would be for urgent works necessary to prevent immediate threats to life, health, property, or the environment.
Notably, possessing a valid construction permit or demolition order will not exempt investors from these restrictions. Penalties for violations are significant: individuals could face fines ranging from 255 to 1,022 euros, while legal entities could be fined between 1,533 and 5,112 euros. For repeat offenders, fines for individuals may increase to 2,556 euros, and for legal entities, they could reach up to 10,225 euros.
