Sofia Prosecutor investigates Hemus Motorway and Northern Tangent projects
The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has launched two pre-trial proceedings investigating potential crimes related to major infrastructure projects: Lot 4 of the Hemus Motorway and the Northern Tangent project.
The investigation into the Hemus Motorway concerns allegations of failing to exercise sufficient care in assigned work, resulting in significant damages to the state-owned company 'Avtomagistrali' EAD. The second case involves an official crime regarding the acceptance of the Northern Tangent project, specifically focusing on discrepancies between the agreed and actually executed thickness of asphalt coating and concrete stabilization.
Investigators aim to clarify the circumstances surrounding the selection of contractors, the legality of expenditures, and the validity of payments. The probe will also examine the actions and omissions of officials from 'Avtomagistrali' EAD, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, and the Road Infrastructure Agency regarding documentation, project acceptance, and payments.
